Getting started
How do I sign up for Tweed?
Tweed is currently invite-only. You can request an invite on the homepage — we’ll email you when a spot opens up. If you already have an invite code, go to tweed.money/sign-up and use it there.
Is Tweed free?
Tweed is free while in beta. When we launch publicly, paid plans will unlock additional features. Everything core — importing, budgeting, forecasting, and wealth tracking — stays free.
Is there a mobile app?
Tweed is a web app that works on any device through your browser. A dedicated mobile app may follow if there’s enough interest.
Is Tweed available outside the UK?
Tweed is built for UK households. Currencies, bank formats, tax rules, and student loan logic are all UK-specific for now. We may expand in the future.
Importing your data
How do I get my bank transactions into Tweed?
Download a CSV statement from your bank’s app or website and upload it to Tweed. That’s it. There’s no bank connection, no open-banking authorisation, and no need to share your banking credentials with anyone.
Which banks are supported?
Tweed currently supports CSV statements from Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Nationwide, Santander, Starling, Monzo, Revolut, and American Express. More formats are added based on user requests.
What if my bank isn’t listed?
You can add transactions manually. Let us know which bank you use and we’ll prioritise adding support for it.
Does Tweed work with building societies?
Yes. Because Tweed uses CSV import rather than Open Banking, it works with any institution that lets you download a statement — including savings-only building societies like Yorkshire, Coventry, and Skipton that aren’t part of the Open Banking directory.
Does Tweed connect directly to my bank account?
No. Tweed uses CSV import only. We never connect to your bank, request read access to your accounts, or ask for your banking credentials. This is a deliberate design choice — your banking relationship stays entirely between you and your bank.
Will Tweed create duplicates if I upload the same file twice?
No. Tweed deduplicates on import — transactions already in your ledger won’t be added again.
What happens if I switch banks?
Nothing changes in Tweed. Because we don’t connect directly to your bank, there’s nothing to re-link. Your existing transaction history stays intact — just start uploading CSV statements from your new bank.
Will Tweed offer Open Banking connections in the future?
Not planned as a priority. We’ve found that manually importing statements once a month takes only a few minutes — and there’s genuine value in that brief, intentional review of where your money went.
Privacy & security
Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored in a secure database hosted by Neon (PostgreSQL). The app runs on Vercel. Both are under Data Processing Agreements with us.
Is my financial data encrypted?
Yes. Transaction descriptions and free-text fields are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM, and all data is encrypted in transit. Each user has a unique encryption key, protected by a master key held separately from the database — a stolen database is useless without it.
Is Tweed regulated by the FCA?
Tweed is not FCA-authorised or registered. Apps that connect to your bank via Open Banking need FCA registration as Account Information Service Providers — Tweed doesn’t, because we don’t use Open Banking at all. We don’t hold money, process payments, or provide financial advice. For data protection, we comply with UK GDPR and are governed by the ICO.
Does Tweed sell my data?
No. Tweed is subscription-funded. Your financial information is used only to run the service — never sold, never shared with advertisers or data brokers.
What does the AI see?
On Pro, Tweed sends transaction descriptions and amounts to Anthropic’s API for categorisation and insights. It never sends your name, email address, account numbers, sort codes, or dates. The AI cannot identify you from what it receives.
Does Anthropic use my data to train its models?
No. Tweed uses Anthropic’s API under a Data Processing Agreement. API data is not used for model training by default.
Is Tweed financial advice?
No. Tweed is a tracking and planning tool. Budgets and forecasts are aids to your own thinking, not advice. Please make financial decisions based on your own research or with a qualified adviser.
Features
What does Tweed actually do?
Tweed brings together spending tracking, budgeting, cashflow forecasting, and long-term wealth planning in one place. A typical month: import your statements, review your spending, close the month, check your forecast. Around 15 minutes.
How does the month-end close work?
At the end of each month, Tweed walks you through four steps: import, review, enter closing balances, confirm. Once closed, your budget and net worth are recorded and the forecast updates. You can reopen a closed month if you need to make changes.
What’s in the Wealth section?
Two tools. The Plan shows your actual net worth against a projected forward line, with goals, ISA and pension allowances, and liquidity buckets. The Lab is a set of what-if calculators: mortgage overpayment, debt payoff, and savings trajectories — tools for taking ownership of your longer-term financial picture.
Can Tweed track my pension, mortgage, and investments?
Yes. You can add any financial account — current accounts, savings, ISAs, SIPPs, property, mortgages, loans — and Tweed will include them in your net worth picture and wealth forecast.
How does Tweed handle transfers between my own accounts?
Tweed automatically detects internal transfers — pot moves, account-to-account transfers, card payments — and excludes them from your spending totals so they don’t inflate your budget. If one slips through, you can mark it as excluded manually.
Does Tweed support couples or joint accounts?
You can import joint account statements and track shared spending within your account. Separate multi-user household accounts aren’t built yet — it’s on the roadmap.
Categorisation
How does Tweed categorise my transactions?
Tweed runs each transaction through a chain: first it checks for internal transfers; then it looks up the merchant from your history; then it applies any rules you’ve set. On Pro, anything that doesn’t match is sent to AI for a best-guess category. The source of each decision — transfer, lookup, rule, AI, or manual — is shown on the transaction.
Can I create my own rules?
Yes. In Settings → Merchant rules, you can define rules that match on description (contains, equals, starts with, or regex) and assign a category. Rules always run before AI.
What are categories in Tweed?
Tweed uses a two-axis model: Group (Income, Needs, Wants, Savings & Investments) and Volatility (Fixed, Variable). This lets you see your fixed Needs (rent, broadband) separately from variable Needs (groceries, transport) — a more useful picture than a flat category list.
Can I correct a wrong category?
Yes, directly from the transaction. You can also tell Tweed to apply the same correction to similar transactions in future.
Pricing & plans
What’s included for free?
Everything core: import statements, categorise transactions (using transfer detection, merchant lookup, and your own rules), budget, close months, forecast cashflow, and plan your wealth. No AI features, but the app is fully functional without them.
What does Pro add?
AI-powered categorisation and written monthly insights, both powered by Claude. Categorisation uses Claude Haiku to make a best-guess category for anything your rules don’t catch. Insights uses Claude Sonnet to write a short summary of your month — where spending shifted, what’s changed, what to watch.
Will I lose my data if I don’t upgrade to Pro?
No. All your transaction history, budgets, and settings stay intact on the free plan. You can also export everything at any time.
How do I cancel Pro?
Settings → Plan → Cancel subscription. No calls, no retention flow. You keep Pro access until the end of the current billing period, then revert to Free. Your data stays exactly as it is.
Your data
Can I export my data?
Yes. Settings → Your data → Export. Everything in your account in one file.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Settings → Your data → Delete account. All financial data is permanently erased. We retain only the minimum records required by law.
What happens to my data if Tweed closes?
Your data is exportable at any time from Settings → Your data. If Tweed were ever to close, we’d give users advance notice and a clear window to download everything before it became unavailable. You’re never dependent on us being around to access what’s yours.
What are my rights under UK GDPR?
As a UK data controller, Tweed honours your rights to access, correct, transfer (data portability), restrict, or object to processing of your personal data. Email privacy@tweed.money.
Who does Tweed share my data with?
Only the sub-processors needed to run the service: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Sentry (error monitoring, with PII removed), and Anthropic (AI features, Pro only). We never sell data or share it with advertisers.
